GOLD FROM GOD'S WORD

Are you paying the high cost of Butter? I don't mean the kind you serve on your table, but the kind we get talking to church members who say:

" Yes, I'm a Christian, but, er...", "I know that I should attend Bible study but, er...", " I know I should be faithful to the services and special meetings but, er...", "I know I should support Missions but, er...", "I know I should be active in some sort of ministry but, er...", " I know God isn't pleased with my half hearted worldly attitude but, er...", "I know I should be setting the example as a Christian but, er...", " Sure I love the Lord but, er...", "I want to go to heaven when I die but, er..."

One day a famous preacher named Henery Ward Beecher went to purchase a horse. The owner declared, " This horse is perfectly sound. He can go at any gait, walk, pace, trot or gallop. He will work any place you put him and he will stand without hitching. He is gentle but full of spirit, goes where you want him to go and stops when you want him to stop."

Beecher looked the horse up and down with great admiration and then said blissfully, "Ah, if only that horse were a member of my church!"

Yes indeed, many people are drifting away from their denominational roots and changing churches or dropping off all together. This is sad, but some of them I can't blame! They were sick of the "traditions", of the mysticism, of the church politics, of the board run, committee run, "cliquish" nonsense that goes on in many churches.

Many are distraught at the fact they've gone to the same church for years and still have no assurance of their eternal destination, and nobody seems to be able to fully answer their questions satisfactorily.

Thank God I'm a member of a church that preaches just the Bible! With all that God directs us to do and be in His Word, why in the world would somebody add a bunch of church traditions and practices in their lives? Keep it simple! Beware of those groups that need some other book of authority to go along with the Bible! Be somewhere where you will get answers and direction from the Word.

I don't know about you , but when I get to heaven I want to hear, " Well done, thou good and faithful servant," not, " I would've let you in but, er..."
