My Fair Lady At Blue Ridge High

Treat yourself to an evening of laughter, music, and delight March 7 and 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the Blue Ridge High School Theatre when the Blue Ridge Theatre Department stages "My Fair Lady."

Under the direction of Mr. Jeff Burkett and Mr. Tim Hutchins Bernard Shaw’s story "Pygmalion" will come to life with lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The 40 member cast accompanied by the 10 member pit orchestra will transport you to London and the transformation of Eliza Doolittle from flower girl to lady under the tutelage of Professor Henry Higgins. It will be an evening you won’t forget. Tickets will be available at $5.00 per adult and $3.00 per student.

Blue Ridge To Host County Band Fest

Blue Ridge School District will be hosting the 2003 Susquehanna County Band Festival on Tuesday, March 4. The festival will be made up of over 250 students from 7th - 12th grade, coming from Blue Ridge, Elk Lake, Forest City, Lackawanna Trail, Montrose, Mountain View and Susquehanna. There are two bands, one made up of the middle school students and the other from high school students.

This year the middle school ensemble will be under the direction of Mr. Jay Thornton who is the elementary/middle school director at Blue Ridge. The high school group will be directed by Mr. John Manchester who is the middle school principal at Blue Ridge and was the past director of the high school program at Blue Ridge.

Susky Elementary Sets Kindergarten Registration

Mr. Robert Keyes, Principal of the Susquehanna Community Elementary School, has scheduled the following registration of kindergarten students for the 2003-2004 school year on March 4 and 5. Registration will be conducted in the LGI room and the nurse’s office from 9:00 a.m. to 3: 00 p.m.

Tuesday, March 4, 2003 - Students whose last name begins with: A B - 9:00 a.m.; C D E - 10:00 a.m.; F G - 11:00 a.m.; H I J - 1:00 P.M.; 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday, March 5, 2003 - Students whose last name begins with: M N O P - 9:00 a.m.; Q R - 9:30 a.m.; S T U V - 10:15 a.m.; W X Y Z - 1:00 p.m.

In order to be eligible for kindergarten, a student must be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2003.

Birth certificate, social security card, immunization records, medical emergencies form, school entry health history forms, vision consent/registration form, and pupil transportation form should be presented at the time of registration.

During kindergarten registration on March 4 and 5, vision, hearing and speech tests will be conducted. A school readiness quiz will be administered, and a brief parent interview will be conducted.

Parents who register after 2:00 p.m. are requested to park in the school parking lot, NOT in the bus lane on the front side of the school building.

Area Students Earn Lock Haven Honors

(Lock Haven, PA) – Lock Haven University Of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce that the following students from Susquehanna County have earned positions on the Dean's List for the Fall 2002 semester. These full-time students have earned a grade-point-average of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or better: Heather M. Bradley, New Milford; Krystal R. Bush, New Milford; Aaron J. Copeland, Little Meadows; Timothy J. Mayers, Friendsville; Jessica R. Pease, New Milford.

Local Students On National Honor Roll

Lynbrook, NY – This year five students from our area qualified for induction into the 2002-03 National Honor Roll.

The National Honor roll recognizes high school students who have achieved exceptional academic success. The 2002-03 Commemorative Edition, which was released in December, honors students who excelled during the 2001-02 school year.

Those who qualified were: Jennifer Benson, Virginia Coleman, Amy Landry, Melissa Phillips, Paul Truskolaski, all from Susquehanna, PA.

Spanish Club Plans Trip To Mexico

The Montrose Area High School Spanish Club is eagerly planning a trip to Mexico this June. Under the guidance of Spanish teacher, Mrs. Goerlitz, club members have planned to visit Cancun, explore the ancient ruins and get to experience their knowledge of Spanish first hand.

Along with the planning the students have been busy with fund-raisers to help off set the cost of their trip. The students are now taking orders for hoagies, to be made and delivered on February 28. Contact any Spanish student to place your orders.

An on going fund-raiser is collecting returnable cans, glass and plastic bottles to return for the deposit. Club members will be at the Montrose United Methodist Church, upper parking lot, every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for the community to drop off their returnables.

The parents and students want to thank the community for their encouragement and support.

Blue Ridge Sets Mid-Winter Concert

The Blue Ridge Instrumental Music Department will presenting a Mid-Winter Concert, featuring all five different concert bands in the school district. The concert will be on Thursday, February 27 at the Blue Ridge High School Theater. The show will begin with the Fifth Grade Band and close with the High School Ensemble. All groups will be performing two to three numbers. This is an excellent opportunity for the public to see how students advance through the years. It is free to the public and will be enjoyed by all.
