Montrose UMC Christmas Sale

The sixth annual Christmas Department Store will be held at the Montrose United Methodist Church, 90 Church Street, on December 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This unique event has been a huge success in former years and this year should be no exception.

Offered for sale will be baked goods, candy, jams and jellies, gift baskets of several kinds, plants, holly, hand-crafted wooden toys, fresh evergreen wreaths and many other kinds of handmade gifts. A limited number of antiques have also been donated for this sale. The attic treasure gift center will be filled with new and like-new items at very low prices. There one can buy toys, household items, decorations for the Christmas tree and home, jewelry, toiletries, Christmas cards, sporting goods, books games, puzzles and much more. Gifts are wrapped at no charge, if the customer so desires.

The food table, manned by Thelma Kloda, was a popular attraction at an earlier Christmas Department Store.

Lunch will be available in the downstairs area, from 11:00 a.m.

It is worth visiting the Fellowship Hall at the church just to see the magnificent Christmas tree in the center of the room. All are cordially invited to come join the fun and do some early Christmas shopping.

Gathering Of Women’s Words In Scranton

A Gathering of Women’s Words, presented by the Susquehanna County Women’s Resource Center on October 9, at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, sent a profound, powerful message to adjoining communities. Advocates and survivors shared stories of domestic and sexual violence through dance movement, writing, art and voice. Hence a Gathering of Women’s Words has been requested to perform at the University of Scranton, December 6, 7:00 p.m., Brennan Hall, Room 228 Brennan Auditorium.

The powerful performance of courage, humor, grace, wisdom and strength touched the audience, moving them to laughter, tears, and applause. In addition, the audience responded with a compelling awareness of the struggle and effects the human condition must undergo in order to rise above violence. Witnessing this superb performance brought recognition and validation, not only to the characters in the performance but to the audience as well. The event was an eloquent and intimate way of allowing people to feel safe and not alone.

As we come together as a community and extend a helping hand, we offer peace to the world. We are a world in need of less suffering and violence and more kindness, love, and unity. Mark your calendars for December 6, attend a wonderful artistic performance at the University of Scranton, and feel honored that it was given birth and creation in Susquehanna County.
